How I Came to Know the Enneagram and Came to Know Myself
When I learned of the enneagram I was humbled by how little I really knew about myself and how I moved in the world. I remember saying to my good friends that attended the workshop lead by David Walsh... “I don’t think I am angry, do you think I am angry”… they both laughed and rolled their eyes.. At that moment I knew that I had been asleep to how I really am and how I meet the world.
The enneagram gave me a new awareness of my ability to observe myself. Before knowing about it, I felt my inner voice was just chattering on about my life. But when I learned that I could observe myself and choose differently, it was a game changer.
I was no longer just reading enneagram books about how a person could live. I was suddenly learning about how I lived and how I affected things and people around me. The enneagram helped make my inner work personal. It helped give me a seed that I could recognize in me. It helped me understand that I am unique, but also that I need unique attention to grow.
I am fascinated by how a simple enneagram pattern can manifest in a variety of ways in each of us. We are truly clever beings. Our ego selves keep finding ways to fool us into thinking we have to take control of our lives, but we actually have to take ownership of who we are. And then move from that place. It is subtle but completely necessary.
By recognizing my responsibility to own my place in this life, I began to recognize that my inner self was a beautiful, lovable, funny, sensitive being that could show itself to the world and affect those around me with that love.
Inscapes continues to help people like you find, understand, and love your unique selves. Here are a few in-person and online events that we are offering as we begin to move into the fall. Hope to see you all in some way soon.
